Our History

Originating from 17th century France, the Acadians were the first French settlers in North America.  Le Grand Dérangement (the deportation) deprived them of their lands and scattered them throughout the world.  The Village Historique Acadien (VHA) portrays the ingenuity and determination of the Acadians starting anew.

Recognized for the authenticity of the historical reconstitution and their warm welcome, the Village Historique Acadien recalls the life of our Acadian ancestors from 1770 to 1949.  More than 40 historical buildings, occupied and animated by interpreters in period costumes, give an impression of going back in time, and travel in history.  Each of the inhabitants has a story to tell, a craft or custom to bring to life.  Take time to savour this unique experience.

Since its foundation, almost three million visitors came to familiarize themselves with the unreal story of the Acadians at the Village Historique Acadien.  Be the next to visit and feel the warmth of our culture.

Meet The Families

One of the most authentic historical sites in North America (Phoenix Award Winner), the Village Historique Acadien strives to portray the lives of Acadians between 1770 and 1949. More than 40 historical buildings are staffed with interpreters who will make you relive the ancestral customs and traditional trades during these years.

Each one has a story to tell.

Allow a minimum of 4 hours to visit the entire site.
